Summer, aka the most exciting season of the year, is nearly upon us! We’re talking vacations, parties, celebrations, barbecues, drinking, hanging out – and of course, living your best life. But to live your best life this summer, you need to feel at your best. With that in mind, we’ve put together a few simple, but key, tips to get you ready for your best summer yet!
- Hydration, Hydration, Hydration
The best way to get in shape for summer is to start with taking the simple steps that build good habits and make the biggest difference. Keeping yourself hydrated should be the first step on your list when trying to get your ideal summer body. There are a few reasons why drinking plenty of water is essential:
- It boosts your metabolism and keeps hunger at bay – especially important for anyone looking to shed a few lbs before summer
- It aids digestion, flushing out bacteria from your stomach and bladder
- It helps maintain your body’s natural balance of fluids
And for those who aren’t keen on plain water, invest in an infuser water bottle! With one of these, you can make your own flavored water with fresh fruit, which will help you drink more.
- Just Move!
Commit to moving your body. It doesn’t have to be complicated, but can be as simple as 15 mins of exercise every day. On some days, you may want to challenge yourself with some High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), or Strength Training.
On others, you might just want to go for a brisk walk or a light jog. Ultimately, establishing consistency is the key to continue building your fitness and keep your body working optimally!
- Eat Healthy
Consume nutritious, fresh foods as much as possible. Generally speaking, we recommend a varied balanced diet – lean proteins (chicken, fish, eggs), healthy fats, and a colorful mixture of fruits and vegetables.
If you’re building muscle then consider increasing your intake of carbohydrates, but if your aim is weight loss then be mindful of your carb intake, and try to eat them earlier in the day before your exercise. The purpose of eating clean is to cut out unnecessary calories in your diet, only giving your body exactly what it needs to function at its optimal state!
- Get Rest
Rest and recovery are just as, if not more, important as everything we’ve just suggested. Your mind & body need rest. Avoid staying up late or partying all the time, and in the same breath, don’t work out relentlessly. Achieving your ideal summer body is all about finding the right balance between enjoying yourself, exercising, and resting.
- Love yourself through the process
Regardless of your current shape, or where you want to be, loving who you are now and the way you look is one of the most important steps in feeling ready to step into your summer body. While it’s great to have goals to aspire towards, it’s more important to have a healthy relationship with your body – or you’ll find that you’ll always be dissatisfied with something about the way you look, even after you’ve reached your goal.
Self-assurance, confidence, and owning who you all contribute to a positive mindset, and a positive mindset will motivate you more to eat well, work out harder, rest and recover accordingly. Loving yourself is a mindset that will take you beyond the summer months so you can stay shining all year through.
