2020 is a year many of us are ready to say farewell to, and as we look to the new year, it is a good time to reflect on our goals.

Not surprisingly, losing weight, exercising, being more active, and eating healthier are among the most common New Year’s Resolutions, as well as sleeping better, managing pain, quitting tobacco, making new friends, and trying new things.

Unfortunately, as gung ho as we may be at the beginning of the year to pursue our goals, the majority of people get off track within the first few weeks or months of the new year.

The good news is, there are ways you can improve your chances for success. Read on for our top tips to get a jumpstart on your 2021 New Year’s Resolutions.

Create a Vision Board – Break out the craft glue and poster board, glitter optional! The act of writing down your goals, vision, and gratitude can be very powerful, and may help you stay on track with your goals. Additionally, this visual representation can be a source of motivation when you’re feeling low or struggling to stay on the path. Be specific and realistic, and break goals down into actionable steps. Include pictures, graphics, motivational words and phrases, anything that might help rekindle your spark when you need it most.

Prioritize Balanced Nutrition – Incorporate more real food with solid nutrients into your diet. Think lean meats, vegetables, and healthy fats. Plan and prepare for meals ahead of time, incorporate healthy swaps, and prioritize a strong nutritional foundation. Limit excess processed foods and sugar.

Get Moving – Weight loss, immune support, confidence, energy, the benefits of physical activity are endless! Getting started is often the hardest part; our Altamonte Springs personal trainers can help! Get in shape and reach your goals safely with the support and expertise you need to start strong and stay consistent.

Practice Mindfulness – Take time to unplug, especially when you start your day, eat meals, or get home from work.

Support Gut Health – Did you know that stress, excess sugar and processed foods, alcohol, and chemicals can negatively impact gut health? This in turn can cause issues with mood, cravings, digestion, immune function, irritability, and overall health. Support your digestive health with bone broth, high quality probiotic supplements, and probiotic foods like sauerkraut, kombucha tea, kimchi, and kefir.

Take Your Vitamins – In addition to negatively impacting our health and immune functioning, vitamin deficiencies can also cause food cravings, making it harder to stay on track with our goals. B vitamins, vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, and magnesium are nutrients most people would benefit from taking, but be sure to consult with your doctor or nutritionist to find the right balance or address specific health concerns.
